The yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus has been pointed out as a promising microorganism for a variety of industrial bioprocesses. Although genetic tools have been developed for this yeast and different potential applications have been investigated, quantitative physiological studies have rarely been reported.

K. marxianus is also used to produce the industrial enzymes: inulinase, β-galactosidase, and pectinase. [5] Due to the heat tolerance of K. marxianus, high heat fermentations are feasible, reducing the costs normally expended for cooling as well as the potential for contamination by other fungi or bacteria.

To enhance homologous recombination (HR) by blocking NHEJ, we identified and disrupted the K. marxianus KU80 gene. The ku80 deletion mutant strain (Kmku80∆) of K. marxianus KCTC 17555 did not show apparent growth defects under 42, 49). Because of these advantages, K. marxianus is currently being promoted as a viable alternative to S. cerevisiae as an ethanol producer. However, systematic comparison of the eth-anol productivity of K.marxianuswith that of S.cerevisiae, orof those among K. marxianus strains isolated from different areas 2019-03-22 · K. marxianus can even grow at 52 °C due to its notable thermotolerance , while S. cerevisiae has optimum temperatures ranging between 30 and 37 °C [10, 11]. Also, besides glucose, K. marxianus is able to utilize a variety of carbon sources, including inulin, xylose, and lactose [12, 13], which cannot be used by S. cerevisiae . The effect of selected compounds on growth and ethanolic fermentation of the thermotolerant yeast strain Kluyveromyces marxianus CECT 10875 was tested.

In this study, we engineered K. marxianus to produce and secrete a single-chain antibody 2016-11-03 · K. marxianus belongs to a species of fungi which are known to utilize the pulp from cacao seeds as a carbon and nitrogen source during the process of fermentation. This microbe is able to consume sugars given off by cacao bean pulp in order to create ethanol; this is a very crucial step in the fermentation of chocolate as it kills the beans and halts germination( 6 ). In this study, the application of K. marxianus in preparing food and the medicinal product was reviewed in terms of its beneficial or harmful effects. Methods: Pub Med, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Science Direct databases were searched by using “Probiotics”, “Yeast”, and “Kluyveromyces marxianus”.

These results suggest that K. marxianus protects itself from heat shock-induced damage through the use of trehalose (a protective molecule in S. cerevisiae) as well as other different factors. K.marxianus var.lactis A1C5 is a facultative aerobe, and the synthesis of biologically active com pounds is determined by the regulating influ ence of the catabolic and anabolic exchange dependent on the oxygen concentration (7, 8, Riotechnol & Biotechnol. K. marxianus is the most promising candidate for large-scale ester production since this dairy yeast with GRAS status grows quickly, converts sugar directly into ethyl acetate without ethanol as an essential inter-mediate, and produces the ester with a high rate and yield [9-17]. The ester synthesis in K. marxianus is easy 2020-12-03 Kluyveromyces marxianus is a non-conventional yeast whose physiology and metabolism lends itself to diverse biotechnological applications. While the wild-type yeast is already in use for producing Kluyveromyces marxianus is one such alternative yeast. Kluyveromyces marxianus is a homothallic, hemiascomycete yeast commonly isolated in dairy products and fruits.

However, K. marxianus is the only inulin-assimilating Kluyveromyces species that does not assimilate or ferment methyl-α-d-glucoside and grows well at 37°C. Ecology: Kluyveromyces marxianus is known mostly through isolates from foods and beverages, especially dairy products, but also occurs in decaying plant tissue and associated insects. Finally, K. marxianus fermentation was applied on several substrates pretreated with [Emim][OAc] or [Emim][MeO(H)PO₂] and enzymatically hydrolyzed: a model long fiber cellulose and two industrial LCBs, softwood (spruce) and hardwood (oak) sawdusts.
